Suppression confirms the reliance on external circumstances to determine our internal state of being.  So, when we "become" bored, apathetic, or upset, we rely upon our phones, partners, or possessions to help us feel "better", rather than take ownership of our reaction.

Reliance on external sources stems from and perpetuates our conditioned mistrust in ourselves. When we don't trust something, we tend not to listen to it.

Suppression is the denial or minimization of something; self-suppression is the denial or minimization of the self. When we diminish ourselves, we diminish our actions, emotions, and thoughts. We overeat, become less active, or social, reinforcing our diminishment.
